Electric vehicles are heavier and punch harder off the line than their size suggests — a combination tires feel first. Studies and our own tread-depth logs agree: EV tires typically wear 15–20% faster than equivalent petrol cars, mostly on the driven axle.
EV-specific tires exist for good reasons: reinforced sidewalls for the weight, low rolling resistance for range, and foam inserts that hush the road noise you'd otherwise hear without an engine masking it. They're worth specifying at replacement time.
The EV Tire Routine
Check pressures monthly and run the placard value, not below — EVs often specify higher pressures, and 3 PSI low can cost real range. Rotate every 6,000 miles without fail, since single-axle wear is exaggerated by regenerative braking loading the same axle.
Watch alignment closely: the weight punishes bad geometry, feathering edges silently. And remember torque discipline — full launches are fun, but each one visibly costs rubber. Save them for special occasions.
